Andras
From the Weird Strange Archive
This illustration depicts the demon Andras, a Great Marquis of Hell, from the 1863 edition of Jacques Collin de Plancy's Dictionnaire Infernal:
Subject & Anatomy: Andras is depicted with the head and prominent circular eyes of an owl set atop the winged, nude body of an angel, riding astride a strong, dark wolf.
Weapons & Pose: He hoists a raised, pointed broadsword in his right hand while casually grasping the wolf's leash or lead with his left.
Artist & Engraver: Illustrated by French marine painter and draughtsman Louis Le Breton (signed "L.B." in the lower left) and engraved on wood by M. Jarrault (signed in the lower right).
Demonic Lore: According to traditional demonological hierarchies (including Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum and the Goetia), Andras is a demon of discord, conflict, and destruction, notorious for sowing quarrels and known to slay his summoner and companions if caution is not exercised.
